Dianne Eramo and I decided to enter the slow dancing contest at the Rhythmic Arts Festival this weekend, 12/30/2007, and ended up winning! Unfortunately I didn't get any video of the competition.

Competing at BluesShout 2007

Rachel Demers and I placed 3rd in the 2007 Blues Shout Jack and Jill. This was our dance in the finals. For those who don't know, a Jack and Jill competition randomly pairs dancers together for a randomly selected song. I had only danced once before with Rachel and that was the day of the competition.

The Fried Bananas at Mike's House

The Fried Bananas (the new name of our swing band) was supposed to play at the Blues Cafe dance on Friday, March 16th. Unfortunately we got snowed out but Mike Hibarger held a late night party instead. The following is a clip from the party:

Anna Callahan (trumpet and voice), Shawn (trumpet), Jim Frey (drums), Josh Fialkoff (piano), Ben Vigoda (guitar), Steve Conahan (bass)

Other clips from that evening:

You can also listen to the podcast of the audio: (the audio quality isn't that great since I stupidly placed the mic near where people congregated rather than close to the band)

SONH Cabaret Piece

This is a piece I composed for the cabaret at the 2006 SONH. In this incarnation I think it's a little bit long, but it was fun to do.

Boring Technical Details:

I'm using Reason on my Mac as the sound source for the bass and vocals. The MIDI trumpet is something I saw Darren Barret play at Wally's Jazz cafe in Boston. I tracked down the maker on the internet and bought one. I'm using an M-Audio as the MIDI interface, a Sony ECM-MS957 MIC, and an RC-20XL looper that my sister and her boyfriend bought me for Christmas. My trumpet is the good ol' Bach Stradivarius and the Harmon is a Jo-Ral.

SheBAM!

Back in November I suggested the creation of a performance group to keep myself and others working on their Lindy Hop. We've now got a name, upcoming performances, and a website (www.dSheBAM.com). The group currently consists of myself, Amanda, Bronwyn Bryant, Marc-Andre Vachon, Elizabeth Miller, and Davis Thurber. One of the coolest features of the site is a blogger driven Inspiration page, which will allow us all to post our most inspiring clips.

Check out video from our first performance:

My Space on myspace.com

I've finally created a MySpace account: www.myspace.com/shawnhershey. It looks like it will be usefull for promoting events and keeping in touch with old friends. But currently most operations seem to take forever to complete. Ack!

Updated Website to use Blogger

Inspired by Ben Vigoda's inventmusic.org website, I decided to modify my website to use Blogger as its engine for generating news. While I was at it, I switched over the hosting from googlepages to webhost4life so that I can have more control over features and play with ASP.Net 2.0. In addition I've created a podcast of all the music on this site so that I can use a nice looking Odeo flash player. I am in geek heaven.

Here's That Rainy Day

Performers: Shawn (trumpet), Carol Hershey (My Mom on Piano) & Shawn (Bass)
About: Used GarageBand to create a Here's that Rainy Day Play-along. You'll have to excuse the low quality bass playing.
